During the May half-term, three groups of Sixth Formers embarked on their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition, traversing the misty Scottish Highlands.
The journey began at Lingfield, with students travelling to Fort William via Gatwick Airport, a flight to Glasgow, and then a train and bus transfer. Once in Fort William, they began their trek up Ben Nevis, mapping out and following a four-day trail route through some of Scotland’s most rugged terrain.
Despite rain and freezing temperatures, the students performed exceptionally well, capturing breathtaking views of mountains and lochs along the way. They were shadowed by two assessors throughout the expedition, both of whom were highly impressed with their resilience, teamwork, and navigation skills.
Covering approximately 20km each day while carrying full expedition packs, the students truly did themselves, and Lingfield proud. Navigating the highlands is certainly no mean feat.
Alex in Year 12 said “I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoorsy experience of Gold DofE; it gave me invaluable memories with my friends.” He also noted how much he valued the chance to be fully independent.
Congratulations to all who took part, and best of luck completing the volunteering and skills sections of the Gold Award!
