The Great Glen Project: Headmasters Lecture

Josh and Olly at the end of their journey
Josh and Olly at the end of their journey

Alumni Josh Carr and Olly Oakley return to Lingfield as guest speakers for the headmasters lecture. They were invited to speak about the incredible challenge they undertook in September 2023 to raise money for WWF_UK.

What they achieved: The Great Glen Project

- A 500kg Powerlifting total (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift)
- A 94.2km river & loch swim from Inverness to Fort William
- An ascent to the summit of Ben Nevis

They spoke about not only the practical challenges of undertaking such a monumental project - such as consuming thousands of calories per day during the swim to maintain energy and warmth - but also the rigorous training leading up to the event, and the mental resilience required to keep pushing forward amid changing weather, rough waters, and the challenge of spending much of the swim in the darkness of the lochs.

The team endeavoured to document this incredible feat, which will be ready in June! Check out the trailer below and experience the breathtaking journey that Josh and Olly embarked on:

Amazingly, Josh and Olly became the 4th & 5th people to ever swim across Scotland and raised thousands of pounds for WWF UK, all whilst highlighting the astonishing beauty of the highlands.

They concluded their talk by urging students and staff to be bold and set challenging goals:

“Be naive enough to start and stubborn enough to finish”
